Prior to becoming a massage therapist, I went to school to be able to work as a Child and Youth Worker. I was lucky enough to have experiences as an educational assistant, a respite worker, and an instructor therapist (just to name a few) with all ages of children and youth who were experiencing behavioural or developmental disabilities. It was during this time that I realized I had a passion for working with individuals with special needs, particularly Autism. However, I did not feel like I had found my calling as a Child and Youth Worker. In 2010, after several years in the field of working with kids and after a lot of soul-searching, I decided to go back to school to pursue a career in health care, something that I had always wanted to do. In 2012 I became a Dean’s List graduate from the Massage Therapy Program at Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario. While in school, I volunteered with Lambton's Best Buddies program and sat on the Massage Therapy Program Advisory Committee. I was also fortunate to have the experience of working with a faculty member to conduct a case report on the effects of massage therapy on phantom limb sensation and pain and submit it to the Massage Therapy Foundation's Student Case Report Contest for which I received an Honourable Mention award. I am now registered and in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and a member of the Registered Massage Therapists Association of Ontario. Relaxation is very important to me and I like to incorporate it into every treatment. I use Swedish massage, myo-fascial release, trigger point therapy, Cupping, and stretching techniques to treat a variety of conditions. Although my style is constant, no two treatments will ever be the same. I believe that massage therapy is beneficial for everyone and, in addition to treating adults, I treat infants and children, and anyone with special physical, behavioural, or emotional needs. I have now found my calling and I truly love what I do every day. I look forward to meeting you and being able to share my passion with you! |
